Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief agency that has been fulfilling its commitment to end hunger for more than 18 years. In 2005, Stop Hunger Now created it’s meal packaging program that perfected the assembly process that combines rice, soy (or dal in some countries), dehydrated vegetables and a vitamin sachet comprising of 23 essential vitamins and minerals into small meal packets. Since 2011, Stop Hunger Now has coordinated the distribution of food and other lifesaving aid to children and families throughout India.
Stop Hunger Now India engages volunteers to participate and engage in hunger education activities. It engages volunteers to package and distribute meals, and facilitates distribution of product donations such as medical supplies, water, and food.
Driving Stop Hunger Now India’s work is the recognition that ending hunger is more than just feeding people, which is why we focus feeding programs in areas where we can have a real impact and expand its hunger-fighting programs beyond meal packaging and distribution. To achieve these broader goals, Stop Hunger Now India supports communities for projects on health care, Water and Sanitation (WASH), sustainable agriculture, food and nutrition education services in areas of greatest needs.
While communities work toward a future in which they can thrive, vulnerable families and individuals around the globe still have basic, immediate needs. That’s why Stop Hunger Now India supports safety net programs that provide nourishment, as well as additional skills training or services that support the difficult journey out of poverty. Meals are provided in schools to encourage increased enrolment and attendance. For adults in community empowerment programs, the provision of meals offsets productive time lost while attending training sessions. Meals distributed in hospitals and clinics may support patients’ nutritional needs and complement their treatments.
Stop Hunger Now India partners with local organisations who support a variety of development programs to meet the basic needs of communities and create long-term, sustainable change. Stop Hunger Now India particularly focuses on school feeding programs because providing a hot meal during school gives parents an incentive to send their children to school. By helping a child learn better and acquire skills, Stop Hunger Now India aims to break the cycle of inter-generational poverty and hunger in a sustainable manner.
Our organisation’s approach to ending hunger centres on mobilising and building a network of hunger champions. Stop Hunger Now India’s meal packaging volunteers produce nutritious meals that are distributed to partners who are best able to address the causes and effects of hunger based on their local presence and expertise. We work with the partners to ensure the meals are used as a tool to change lives by promoting education, improving students’ health and nutrition, addressing gender inequalities, stimulating economic growth and fighting child labour.
Since 2011, Stop Hunger Now has been providing meals to nonprofit partners in India. In 2013, Stop Hunger Now was invited to organise a meal packaging event in Bangalore, packaging 75,000 meals with local corporate sponsors. This event, along with others throughout 2014, led to the opportunity to establish a permanent chapter in Bangalore in March 2015. Number of corporations, civic organisations, communities of faith and schools have enjoyed organising and participating in a Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event. It is an immensely fun, hands-on and rewarding experience for anyone of any age.
