The state of Assam has been receiving incessant rains for the past few weeks affecting 36 lakh (3.6 million) people in 28 districts of the state. There have been reports of at least 73 deaths due to the current wave of severe floods. Morigaon is among the worst affected Districts.
Stop Hunger Now India has joined hands with the Times Foundation (Times of India Group) and Action Aid India to coordinate flood relief efforts. Over 6,000 meals have been transported, courtesy free freight services offered by Indigo Airlines to Guwahati and from there to deep inside the flood-hit locations in Galamari https://www.google.fr/…/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x375ae7377102bdaf:…
of Morigaon district.
In Galamari, which is on the banks of Brahmaputra, thousands of people in the area are still on the embankments as they could not return home though water have receded. They have apprehension that they may have to stay on the embankment for another 2 months.
Approximately 666 families are being served with the meals and other supplies. Priorities given to pregnant mothers, lactating mothers, mothers/families with children below 6 years, aged without care, widow, persons with disabilities, very poor families (living on alms) etc.
We would like to send more supplies to this location. Hopefully, we will be able to get support from our generous friends and well wishers to help the flood affected people in Assam.
