Though India has the third largest economy by GDP in the world, approximately 21.9% of the population is in poverty (World Bank 2012). While the government has initiated programs to help alleviate the poor, the programs have not been completely effective. According to latest FAO estimates in ‘The State of Food Insecurity in the World, 2014” report, 190.7 million people are undernourished in India. This means that India is home to a quarter of all undernourished population in the world. The good news is that the poverty level is decreasing! Since 2006, the rate of undernourished in India has decreased by 15.3 percentage points. With your help, we can end hunger in India by 2030. When we can speak the facts about hunger, we can easily tell the story of those suffering and motivate others to get involved!
